Large Bowl

For more than 45 years, Jack Anderson created furniture, cabinets and custom houses. The self-taught Marietta woodworker now specializes in hand-carved large bowls from fallen trees.

The designer & background: Grew up on Georgia’s Tybee Island. Anderson attended Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., and the University of South Carolina. In college, he worked with a builder, honing his carpentry skills. Later, as a custom builder, Anderson focused on post and beam homes with unique designs.

The main goods: Carved wood bowls made from reclaimed tree trunks; live-edge tables; benches; and consoles with large, dove-tail joints.

What’s popular: Bowls ($500 to $10,000).

Other favorites: Console and coffee tables ($800 to $2,500) and chests ($3,000 to $10,000).

Fun request: Helped design and remodel an old Gullah cottage on Daufuskie Island, S.C. The project was featured in Coastal Living magazine (April 2008).

Where to buy: http://jackandersonarts.com or facebook (jackandersonarts). In Atlanta, also at The Signature Shop, 3267 Roswell Road, in Buckhead (thesignatureshop.com).
