taste of italy

December 9, 2013

Started by Italian-born Adriana Coppola, Alta Cucina makes small batches of hand-made tomato sauces, oils, balsamic vinegars and pestos in Suwanee.

The company’s year-round best sellers include balsamic vinegar reductions, such Crema Balsamica, plus fig, cherry, orange, strawberry and white balsamics.

Also popular are the slow-cooked, all-natural tomato sauces, such as Arrabiatta (gets it kick from pepperoncino or red hot pepper); Sugo Alla Norma (with eggplant) and Capperi e Olive (black olives and capers). For pizza, try the marinara sauce.

Prices range from $6 to $13. Look for fresh pestos ($6 for six ounces), tomato sauces ($10 for 16 ounces) and balsamic vinegars ($13 for 8.5-ounce bottle) at Atlanta-area farmers’ markets and Lucy’s Market, 102 W. Paces Ferry Road, in Atlanta‘s Buckhead area. The market offers fresh produce and other Southern-made foods and products.
