back to the beach

May 21, 2012

Growing up, Karen Robertson often vacationed along the Florida beaches. Her love of water and marine life later drew her back.

In 2003, the former antiques dealer moved to Ponte Vedra Beach. The following year, the artist started the Karen Robertson Collection, known for its unique, nature-inspired designs.

Using sand dollars, starfish, shells and sea fans, Robertson creates sophisticated artwork for your beach or year-round home.

Her framed sea fans, which can be tinted in various colors, are top sellers. A 24-inch-by 24-inch framed sea fan is $625. Hot colors include orange (below) and blue haze — and Robertson’s current favorite, sea lavender (pictured above).

She also creates framed artwork using assorted seaweeds (below) gathered from the Florida coasts. Other popular collections include starfish and anchors.

What’s next for Robertson? She is working on a line of marine-inspired fabric. Crab nets, driftwood and marine rope have given her lots of her ideas.
