see spot sleep

May 7, 2012

In 2004, Sarah Killen and Katie Logan met through a mutual friend in New Orleans. The creative pair became pals and started crafting.

Killen played around with making dog beds because of the lack of attractive options on the market – especially for large dogs, like her rescued Great Dane mix.

She and Logan, an LSU grad with an interior design degree, made a few dog beds from vintage textiles that wowed friends.

Their passion for dogs and design eventually lead to the founding in 2011 of See Scout Sleep, a Louisiana-based company that makes stylish, eco-friendly dog beds.

Made of 100 percent hemp, the durable outer cover is machine washable. Then, there are two inner layers. One is filled with buckwheat hulls. The other is stuffed with kapok, a cotton-like fiber.

Both sides of the bed boast original artwork and designs, but the colors and patterns are neutral enough for any space.

In a nod to NOLA, they came up with natural-dye sketches of Gulf Coast creatures, like crabs, for one side of the dog beds.

While the small kissing shrimp is a customer favorite, Logan prefers the large oyster. (Both are pictured below.) New designs and updated patterns are on tap for May.

Beds in various sizes range from $65 to $300. The company also offers colorful collars and leashes, ranging from $20 to $30 for your top dog.
